What do I need to rent a campervan in Iceland?
If you want to rent a camper with us, you’ll need:
- To be at least 20-25 years of age (+25 for motorhomes)
- A valid ID or passport
- An original driver’s license (valid for at least 12 months)
- A valid credit card of one of the passengers (or of the driver in some cases)
Is there a minimum rental period?
Yes, there is. Most campers have a minimum rental period of 72 hours, while it can be higher for some RVs.
Will my driver’s license be valid in Iceland?
All driving licenses held for a minimum of 12 months and issued from the USA, Canada and the European Economic Area (EEA) are valid in Iceland. A driving license from anywhere else will be valid if it has:
- A license number
- The license holder's photograph
- A valid date
- Been printed in Latin characters
What does the rental price include?
Your Camper Rental Iceland vehicle comes with:
- Unlimited Mileage
- PAI (Personal Accident Insurance)/Third-party liability insurance
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
- Winter tires (from November to April)
- 24% Local VAT
On top of that, depending on your vehicle choice, it may also include extras like sleeping bags, foldable table & chairs, or kitchen utensils, just to mention a few. For more information, drop us a line and we’ll get back to you within the hour!
How do I pay for my rental?
Book your rental camper or motorhome before coming to Iceland by using our secure online payment system. All you need to do is:
- Select the vehicle and the extras that you want
- Leave a deposit to secure your reservation
- Collect your rental vehicle and pay the remaining balance
We accept online credit card payments with Visa, MasterCard and American Express; however the former may not be accepted for outstanding balance payments in Iceland.
Do I need a credit card to rent a vehicle with Camper Rental Iceland?
Yes, you do.
You’ll need a credit card to cover any extra costs, such as fines for traffic offenses, vehicle damage, fuel, and any other costs directly related to the use of the hired vehicle. At the start of the rental, we will save your credit card information in order to cover these costs.
Do I need to leave a deposit?
Yes, in most cases you do! The amount is equivalent to the insurance policy’s franchise, i.e., for the basic CDW insurance, it fluctuates between 100,000 ISK and 350,000 ISK.
How can I make changes to my booking?
If you want to modify your booking, please send us an email to [email protected] and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Can you guarantee that the vehicle I chose will be available?
No, we cannot. However, should the chosen vehicle not be available, we will offer you a vehicle from the same or a higher category.
What is your cancelation policy?
- For our campervans: We’ll refund your booking in full as long as you cancel at least 30 days before your rental begins. If you cancel during those 48 hours, the cancellation fee will be the same amount as the booking confirmation fee. If you don’t show, we’ll charge the booking fee in full.
- For our motorhomes: If you cancel up to 48 hours in advance, we’ll only charge 15% of the total rental fee. Canceling 7 days or less before the rental date, will result in a fee equal to 100% of the rental cost. The same rules apply for no-shows.
